Yoga for Healthy Backs with Jane Craggs
A workshop with Manchester based Svastha Yoga Teacher Jane Craggs.
Saturday 29th Feb 10.30am to 4.30pm (1 hour for lunch)
"How to keep balanced function in asana practice"
On this workshop you will learn how to take care of your spinal health in Yoga practice. We will be concentrating on function over form...what does this mean? That the function of the posture for our spinal health will be of primary concern, not how the finished posture looks.
The approach will be to help students become aware of how they hold and move their bodies habitually. They will then build on this using simple, asana sequences that retrain the mind and body to find healthy function and alignment, on and off the yoga mat. The day will involve therapeutic mobilisation and stabilisation practices. There will also be teaching about the function of the spine, how it works, common problems and how mindful yoga can help.
We will also be focusing a great deal on the support of the breath for moving the spine.
I am very interested in any issues you have in your spine in advance of the workshop so that I can tailor the workshop to the group.
This workshop is useful for practitioners and teachers alike and can be applied whatever your preferred form of yoga
Topics that will be covered in this workshop:
• Yoga therapy – focus on function
• The Spine – major muscles
• Asana Practice for stabilisation
• The need for mobilisation and Integrated Movement
• Asana Practice – Mobilisation
What you can expect to benefit from coming to the training:
• Understand neutral alignment, flexion and extension of the spine
• Learn how to apply this understanding functionally in asana
• Learn how the breath supports both alignment and function of the spine
• Learn how to work with breath and body to develop spinal stability
• Learn how to work with breath and body to develop appropriate mobility
Question and answers will be integrated throughout the day.
